Microsoft supporting FLAC!

I don’t believe it! Microsoft has announced native support for FLAC in Windows 10!

FLAC support in Windows 10

FLAC stands for “Free Lossless Audio Codec”. Like MP3 and WAV, it’s an audio format. It’s similar to WAV in that it’s lossless (i.e. no degradation in quality), but it’s much smaller than WAV because it’s compressed. FLAC is great for archiving CDs because you get CD quality in a relatively small file. Unlike MP3, FLAC is not a proprietary format. I guess Microsoft really is trying to embrace open standards more and more.
