The Original ThinkPad

I got a new Lenovo ThinkPad the other day. It is interesting to note the history of the ThinkPad and how it has improved, especially before 2005 when ThinkPads were still produced by IBM.

Search around the Internet and you’ll find that the first ThinkPads were the IBM ThinkPad 700 and the IBM ThinkPad 700C, both released on October 5, 1992.

Or even further back, the IBM 2521 ThinkPad, announced in April of the same year (but didn’t ship until July) and renamed in October to the IBM ThinkPad 700T to follow the naming scheme of the rest:

But the original ThinkPad was a leather notepad given to IBM employees:

You can still order them, although the leather is now apparently fake, and you can still order paper refills when the pad runs out.
