Summer 2013 started today!

Being the summer solstice, today is the day with the longest duration of daylight. After today, the days get shorter. For the norther hemisphere, anyway.

In the southern hemisphere, it’s the winter solstice.

For the North pole, today signals midsummer. Only three more months until full darkness!

For the South pole, today signals midwinter. Only three more months until full sun!

For those in the equator, forget daylight variability. Get ready for precipitation, or lack thereof!
